My Clear Black Night Encounters

When I was still young, my parents ingrained in us not to wear black. That’s how it goes in every traditional Chinese family as the color spells bad luck and identifies itself with death. Whenever we were caught not complying with this Chinese color rule, we already had expected to have a rundown of sermons in the house. But as I grew older, I realized that wearing black is something that I would like to partake in, something that I believed that would make someone appear fabulous and attractive. I’m proud to say that I already have a few black shirts and polo shirts to parade in. In art, black is the absence of color. But in the recent Clear Black Night Halloween Party (sponsored by Unilever Philippines & SM Hypermarket) held at Taste Asia, Mall of Asia on October 31, 2008, black was indeed the color of control, power and strength.

As far as I can remember, it was my first time to attend a party of which black is the dress color code. In Egypt, black represents rebirth. It is the traditional mourning color in China. But in the Clear Black Night party, black was the color of merriment and companionship as we wear our glittery masks, strut our moves, and have endless picture-taking with fellow bloggers and friends. What makes the party also really attractive are the presence of the debonair and charming ramp models, and the appearance of the Miss Earth 2008 candidates. The whole Clear black night experience was a moment of attraction to behold.

I was delighted to see at the party my former De La Salle-Zobel students in Grade 1 Art – now third year high school! Marco, Arturo, Erroll & Marky are all grown-ups now, even taller than I am. Marky had not been my student but I’m also glad to have met him with my former students.

I was fortunate to have invited my friend, Mark Frias as we were helping each other take pictures of us with the celebrities using my Canon Ixus 70 camera. We tried to establish connections with new friends. One person that I got really close in the event was Jameelah Bowden, a Filipino-British model, who lives here in Manila for over a year now. She is very down-to-earth, approachable, friendly and humble. We first talked to her at the hall entrance with the initiative of Mark, after I told Mark to take picture of Jameelah and me.

I can feel a bit shy and intimidated of the presence of some celebrities. But the confidence that dwelt in me was when Jameelah (in the midst of the deafeaning dance music in the house) told me, “Arvin, why don’t you hang out here with us.” That’s when I started to chat with her. The friendship that she offered me is the genuine moment of attraction. But I know that she’s already taken, and that is “clear” to me. It was a night to remember.

The color black was really tangible, breathing life into the party, fluid as a melody as we danced the night away with some funky discoteque music mixed by DJ Anne Barcelone & DJ Herbie Walton. The affirmation of Clear shampoo that black is clear holds true. It gives you that oozing confidence and charisma to meet new friends because it is gentle on the scalp, and smells great too on the hair. Because Clear contains revolutionary Zinc Vitanol complex, composed of Zinc mineral complex, Amino Acids, Vitamin E and Sunflower Oil which nourish the scalp. I love black. And with Clear, dandruff really has no way of coming back. I trust Clear and I’ve been using this shampoo since 2007 and the experience is cool and worthwhile! I love the Clear Men Activsport and Ice Cool variants. Clear is my choice.

My name is Vin – logging off.
